Jerry McCoy a.k.a. Daryl McCoy was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1951. His current residence is 2216 Deer Run, Lakeland, Florida. Jerry started selling RV's retail in 1964 and has been either self employed or in the family business most of his life. Jerry is a quadriplegic (This means partial or complete paralysis of all 4 extremities.) that broke his neck in a diving accident in 1969 which left him paralyzed with a C5-C6 fracture of the spinal vertebrae and a damaged spinal cord. He attended the Des Moines Area Community College from 1978 - 1980 to get his Associates degree in Health Care Administration. After passing both state and federal licensing exams, he was licensed to be a nursing home administrator. It didn't take long to determine the pay was not going to match the grief from family members, state and federal inspectors and the loss of disability insurance that is crucial in his situation. The time learning that industry and living in a nursing home was rewarding, frustrating and depressing. The residents and their families were usually great when treated with the respect they deserved. The nursing home staff varied from caring individuals that were there because they loved helping people to those that were there only for the meager paycheck they were given. The latter group can be kept to a minimum by good administration which requires great people skills, good policies and honest communication. The pay in the health care industry will never be up to the level the care givers deserve because of a variety of factors. You might be wondering what this has to do with me. All of this knowledge and experience helped me hone my skills at working with people in difficult situations. I used my business experience to motivate underpaid and overworked employees of the facility I was in even though I was a resident. I used these same skills to help calm family members when things didn't go as they wanted because of the staffing shortage, government regulations or the family member's loved one's health. I helped new spinal chord injured patients adjust to their new lives. I helped develop the policies, procedures and operating budgets for a community owned nursing home. These experiences have helped me solve problems in my own businesses and now as a trainer on Marketing and on using some Internet Marketing tools. I can calmly take the time needed to repeatedly repeat the same information numerous times when necessary so even my greenest student can understand what I am trying to teach. I use the name Daryl McCoy in most of my businesses to honor the personal and business values my father has taught me plus he gets the money. I’ve been paralyzed for 37 years but working in the business world, often as a volunteer, for over 40 years. I tutored students in a variety of subjects in both high school and college and for the last few years I’ve been a volunteer staff member for an online non-profit organization that has marketing tools. Part of my responsibilities with this organization have been teaching the use of the search engine promotion script they have, coordinating other trainers and teaching an entry level marketing class.
