I'm sure that free website advertising is your goal just as it is for every other webmaster that has a site. This article is going to give you ideas and reminders that may help you.

1. Review your business plan and daily action plan to see how much time you have set aside for marketing your business because free website advertising usually has TIME as the cost.
2. Determine how much time you can afford to invest in generating the different types of free website advertising.
3. Use a stop watch, if necessary, so you don’t go over the time you have allotted yourself for each advertising method you choose to use.

We’ve discussed some of these free website advertising methods before so I won’t spend much time going into each of them.
Website Optimization - The way you structure your website, the keywords you use to target each page, the use of title tags, image tags, meta tags and other on page elements you control are all things that help enhance the visitor experience and help the search engines index you correctly.
Social Bookmarking - This may or may not help you in the search engines because of the backlinks but it does give others that see your tags to find your website outside of the search engines.
Forum Marketing - Forums are a way to share your expertise to build trust before a person becomes a customer. Make sure you only participate in Forums that allow links in signature files if you participate in Forums with marketing in mind.
Blog Comments - Find quality blogs within your niche that the search engines haven’t blacklisted, post good feedback and information on posts that you like. IF you are going to take the time to do blog comments, make sure the blog allows your URL to be entered either under your name or in your comment’s signature.
Blogs - A blog gives you a way to share information and invite feedback, questions and participation outside of the sales page.
Videos - Making informational videos that are 10 minutes or less in length and hosting them on some of the free video hosting sites can generate traffic if done correctly.
Social Networking - This lets you interact with people within your industry and within other industries. The value of these interactions will be friendships that may or may not result in increased traffic and business.

These free website advertising techniques, when done correctly, can help you in the search engines; it can help generate website traffic it can help you show your expertise.

These are very basic notes on free website advertising. I'm using them all myself for my new website.

The most effective method I've seen so far is is forum marketing. Instead of just posting with your web address/advert in your signature, you can also run competitions involving your website and offer rewards for people who use your website.

Most forums have some type of virtual money system. You can use the money you earn from posting to purchase links and advertising on other peoples sites. This is very effective.

All very effective forms of advertising..I think bookmarking is one of the most effective.
