Does Your Business Marketing Plan Start Like This?

You do have a business written marketing plan don’t you? This article details the first step I think every local business should have in their marketing plan.

Create a five star reputation culture within my business (Note: A stellar reputation is a business asset.)

  1. Create An Online Employee Training System
    1. Create an online training center for my employees that teaches them the importance of a quality reputation and that they play an important part in developing that quality reputation.
    2. Create an online quiz for my employees that will determine how well they understood the reputation training course.
    3. Have the results from each quiz taken by each employee automatically emailed to me or to someone I designate so I know which employees need more assistance in understanding the importance of a quality reputation and the role they play in developing that reputation.
    4. Have each employee go through the training course and take the quiz.
  2. Create An Online Customer Review Collection System
    1. Create a branded web page with a form where my customers can leave reviews for my business.
      1. This form must collect the customer’s name.
      2. This form must collect the customers email address.
      3. This form must have a text box where the customer can leave a review.
      4. This form must have a mandatory checkbox where the customer is giving us permission to use this review in our marketing.
      5. This form must have a checkbox where the customer gives us permission to post their review online for them if we choose to go that route.
      6. This page must stream in five star reviews left by other customers so they psychologically think better of us while they are posting the review.
      7. After the review is left, any customer that left a four or five star review should be redirected to a page asking them to repost the review they just left to a Google or another directory site that is listed on the page.
      8. After the review is left, any customer that left a three-star or lower review should be redirected to a page where we apologize for their poor experience and asked them to call the phone number on that page to see if there is a way that we can help improve their opinion of my business.
    2. This system should email me or anyone I designate that a positive or negative review has been posted to our system. (My employees and I deserve acknowledgment when we receive four and five star reviews and we need to know what we are doing to generate poor experiences so we can correct them.)
    3. Put a system in place where we ask our current and past customers for reviews. We can do this by emailing them, giving them a postcard with the URL to the review page, by giving them a business card with the URL to the review page or by using a combination of the above.
  3. Once we have a steady flow of good customer reviews coming in, it is time to start using those four and five star reviews in all of our online and off-line marketing.

If your local business doesn’t have a reputation training, collection and marketing system like this in place to build a high valued business asset, your advertising isn’t nearly as effective as it could be if you had these customer reviews scattered throughout the Internet and in your marketing materials.
