Do You Understand Google Speak?

Google speak is the technical terms that are used in online marketing and I’m using that term since Google is the most popular search engine. See what it means?

Marketing your business online is like learning a whole different language and until you understand the different nuances of that language you will see little, if any, success.

Terms like:

  • Google+ Local
  • Google+ Business Page
  • Google Hangout
  • Google Maps
  • Google Offers
  • Google Categories
  • Citations
  • Tracking Number
  • Keywords or Buying Keywords
  • Local Search
  • Website Optimization
  • Social Proof
  • and much, much more

may not make much sense to you if they aren’t presented to you in a way that lets you see the whole picture.

You must have a comprehensive marketing plan that ties your website, your social media marketing and your search engine marketing into a single campaign that is planned out in a way that you can meet your goals.

Here are some of the pieces of the puzzle that you have to play with:

  • Your Branded Website
  • Google+ Business Page
  • Your Facebook Business Page
  • Your Twitter Page
  • Your Pinterest Business Page
  • Your LinkedIn Profile
  • Your Customer Review Collection System
  • Online Directory Sites

You may have a marketing system that is either ineffective or broken if you don’t know how and when to effectively use some of the pieces of the puzzle.

In addition to knowing how and when the use the different pieces, you need to understand that the world of online marketing is in a state of constant change.

Google and Facebook are constantly changing the rules of the game to try and stay ahead of the marketers that try to manipulate the system to gain an unfair advantage over their competitors.

This means that some of the marketing techniques that were acceptable yesterday could get you in trouble today.

Since Google is the most used search engine, they change the algorithm that is used to determine which page gets the top listing several hundred times a year.

Google’s local search is just now starting to see some of the massive changes that businesses that try to rank globally have been experiencing for a few years.

Some of these massive changes have been triggered by people using mobile devices to do online searches for local businesses.

People leaving reviews on third-party directories, blogs and social media sites has also forced Google to switch to weighing the social proof as part of how high in the search results a site should rank.

It is getting harder for a local business owner or a solo online marketer to be successful without expert guidance.

You cannot adequately run your business, do the necessary marketing and keep up with the ever-changing rules of online marketing by yourself.
